Is Tongkat Ali Beneficial for Women’s Health? Let’s Find Out

Women these days are suffering from various health issues, such as hormonal imbalance, stress, weight gain, and many more. Particularly, hormonal imbalance is quite common due to age, exposure to toxins, etc.

Common symptoms of these health issues include fatigue, low libido, brain fog, and slow metabolism. While there are conventional treatments available, going for natural solutions like Tongkat Ali can be a safe treatment for these issues.

Tongkat Ali or Eurycoma longifolia is an evergreen shrub, generally found in Southeast Asia. Also known as longjack, this traditional medicine has been used to treat fever, malaria, infections, erectile dysfunction, male infertility, etc.

However, this herb has also been proved to be beneficial for female health. Several studies confirmed its health-supporting and hormone-balancing benefits for both men and women.

Benefits of Tongkat Ali for Female Health

From boosting the testosterone levels in women to improving their metabolism and reducing stress, longjack has been supporting female health for centuries.

The health benefits of this herb are quite well known to health enthusiasts. Several manufacturers are using Tongkat Ali extract to produce medicines and supplements.

Here are some of the positive effects of Tongkat Ali on women’s health.

Tongkat Ali Can Boost Your Testosterone Level

Whenever we hear about testosterone levels, we consider it something related to male health. But, this androgenic hormone is also vital for women’s health.

Both males and females produce a significant amount of this hormone as part of a normal process in their bodies. In fact, Androgen production is higher than the estrogen hormone. It’s because they eventually turn into estrogen.

Increased testosterone levels can improve the sexual flame in both men and women. It can enhance the sensitivity of female erogenous zones, and eventually strengthen its libido-boosting qualities.

Although the study has shown its libido-boosting activity in male rats, researchers say this effect can be replicated in females as well.

It Can Help Prevent Weight Gain

Unwanted weight can be a result of hormonal imbalance for most women. The reason is that low testosterone levels can slow metabolism, which eventually leads to weight gain.

Longjack can stabilize hormones, reducing your chances of becoming overweight.

study published in 2019 shows that Tongkat Ali can be an effective herbal supplement that helps in losing weight for both men and women.

Although most of the studies have been done on men, women can also get benefited by using this herb.

Longjack Can Boost Energy & Strength

Low testosterone levels often result in decreased energy levels. Tongkat Ali can improve your energy level and strength by balancing the hormone.

Besides, if you exercise regularly, consuming this herbal supplement can be beneficial for your muscle strength.

In a study conducted in 2016, 31 women aged between 45 and 59 years took 200 mg of longjack for 12 weeks.

The result showed significant improvement in their upper body power on the bench press and in handgrip strength.

The increased strength can help support endurance while you exercise.

It Can Improve Your Mood

Tongkat Ali is known to decrease the level of cortisol, the primary stress hormone, thus eventually reducing stress and anxiety and improving your overall mood.

You can also suffer from chronic stress due to lack of exercise, improper diet, insomnia, etc., which can be treated using this herbal remedy.

Its possible role in treating mood issues was first identified in 1999. A study found that this herbal supplement was useful as a common anti-anxiety drug in decreasing the symptoms of anxiety in mice.

Another research performed on both men and women showed that 200 mg of longjack could reduce anxiety, stress, anger, as well as cortisol exposure.

Tongkat Ali Can Lower Blood Sugar Level

Maintaining a proper blood sugar level is essential to prevent type-2 diabetes. However, your unregulated diet regime and hormonal imbalance can increase the blood sugar level, putting you at risk of diabetes.

While there are several treatments for diabetes, such as insulin and other drugs, natural remedies like longjack extract can also be beneficial in regulating blood sugar levels.

Research published in 2010 confirmed Tongkat Ali’s contribution to a substantial decrease in blood sugar levels.

It Contains Anti-Ulcer Properties

If you have ulcer-related problems, the chances are that you will suffer from mild to severe abdominal pain and stomach discomfort.

Longjack contains anti-ulcer properties that can fight stomach related diseases. It can reduce the increasing amount of acid in the stomach, thus soothing the discomfort and pain.

Longjack Can Combat Bacteria & Inflammation

Several studies performed on Tongkat Ali showed that this herb is rich in anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, and antibacterial components.

recent study has found that this herbal extract contains medicinal properties that can effectively reduce inflammation in the human body.

Another study published in 2017 confirmed its antibacterial activities that could successfully exhibit the growth of certain harmful bacteria, such as E-coli, staph, as well as salmonella.

Moreover, Tongkat Ali has been proved to inhibit the production and growth of parasites that can cause intestinal issues in both men and women.

Potential Side Effects of Longjack

While Tongkat Ali has several proven benefits, it may also have some side effects in case of overdose.

As most of the studies used 200mg to 300mg of this herb. It’s not sure up to which dose it can be tolerated by a human body.

However, one study found 26% of mercury in a Tongkat Ali supplement, which is quite higher than the recommended level. Overdose of mercury can lead to mood swings, memory problems, and many more.

Besides, most of the studies had been conducted for a few months. So, it’s not sure whether this supplement is safe to take for a more extended period.

Final Thoughts

Hormonal imbalance can take a toll on your life sometimes, whether you’re a man or woman. While testosterone is widely known as the “male sex hormone,” it’s equally important for women.

Low testosterone levels can cause reduced sexual performance in some women and create some other health issues, such as decreased energy and muscle mass.

Tongkat Ali is one of the most popular herbal supplements that has been suggested to treat several issues like an imbalanced hormone, overweight, stress, and many more.

However, before you start taking any supplement, especially when you’re pregnant, consult a doctor or nutritionist for the right usage and dosage.
