Benefits of Breastfeeding vs. Formula Feeding

For most parents, a big decision to make for their baby’s diet is to choose between breastfeeding or formula feeding. Most women prefer to pull out a bottle of formula to feed their baby in public; however, some prefer to breastfeed. No matter what a mother chooses to decide for her baby, there will be people pointing fingers at her.

How? See, if she chooses formula feeding, people will criticize her for not feeding the baby with nature’s perfect food’ that is breast milk. And if she chooses to breastfeed religiously, even in public, some people might feel uncomfortable.

Well, in this world, this is what mom-shaming is. It creates mom guilt in a woman. In any case, you, being a wonderful mom must only focus on what is the right choice for you and your baby in all circumstances.

Let us describe the benefits of breastfeeding as well as formula feeding to help you make your decision easier.

Breastfeeding

Certainly, breastfeeding is considered as the best nutrition for infants even by the American Academy Of Pediatrics (AAP). It is considered that infants must be breastfed for at least half a year for their better health and the health of the mother. In some places, it is also encouraged to breastfed babies for a year. Of course, this implies when both the mother and child are willing.

Breast milk is beneficial for babies in the following ways:

  1. It is easily digestible for the infant and prevents them from being constipated or gassy.
  2. It offers natural antibodies to the infants to help them fight illnesses and infections.
  3. Breast milk lowers the risk for babies from experiencing sudden infant death syndrome in the first year of life.
  4. It helps the baby develop much quicker and better with cognitive abilities along with increasing the child’s intelligence.
  5. It also helps the child later in their life by safeguarding them from illnesses such as high cholesterol, leukemia, lymphoma, asthma, overweight, etc.

Formula Feeding

Formula feeding is the best possible alternative for breast milk. The formula milk is healthy and is made to resemble breast milk. Many mothers decide to give formula milk to their children on some occasions if not all, for the following reasons:

  1. It is convenient to feed the baby at any time and any place.
  2. It is easy to adjust giving formula milk to the baby with a busy time and schedule or simply leave the bottle of formula milk with a babysitter or daycare center.
  3. A partner might also help to feed the baby at a different time of the day. This also increases the bond with the baby.
  4. It is considered that formula is not digested as easy as breast milk so the baby will not need to eat anything for the first few months until they develop.
  5. Mothers who breastfeed their children have to avoid and prevent from using certain things, however, with formula milk, you will not need to worry.

Moreover, if you’re experiencing time issues and scheduling, the best thing you can do is that you can always pump your breast milk in a bottle to feed your baby. Whichever way you choose, know that your baby is well cared for.
